Secret Fire

Give me the Secret,
and I’ll tell you what secrets are
that lie in the heart of formless being,
deep in the heart of a darker knowing
yet  are never told;
that we grow old with and fear to tell.

How can we know who we are?
Or what Love is, beyond passion,
beyond union of forms, rhythm or heat?
Beyond sweetness or ecstasy?
It’s Knowing!

Oh you who beguile
with dark eyes that consume me with fire!

  1. Again this is beautiful but its the metre that is so good! I was trying to write poetry agian last night and I thought I don't have the same intuitive use of rhythm like you - maybe Horses of the Night had it but its a real skill of yours.

    I think you might have missed out of 'we' in the 1st line of the 2nd verse, though. x

  2. Oh and I have this picture of the Catseye nebula too. x

  3. Thanks for your comments Jess. And for pointing out the omission. I had spotted that earlier & thought I'd corrected it; but no! Typo, in a text near you now!

  4. Oh, I love this one Elizabeth. It reads beautifully and is very enigmatic. It says a lot to me and no doubt something slightly different with others. Do you know what though? I prefer it without the last two lines - but that's just personal 'cause I really love it with the last line being 'It's Knowing!' Although I have studied poetry, I'm not "deeply" into it, but I know what I like. I've had a quick look round the rest of the site too - artistic as ever - and the poetry demands more of my time. I'll be back!
